| We would welcome individuals who would enjoy spending time with our Elders. Playing cards or games and reading are some of the activities you can do to make a one-to-one visit special and meaningful. |
If you are looking for ways to reach out and touch someone's life, a great place to start is by volunteering at Golden Door Geriatric Centre. There are many wonderful opportunities to make a difference in the lives of our elders and volunteers are a welcome sight at our home.
Often, the Residents of personal care homes find themselves in the unfortunate situation of feeling loneliness and depression on a daily basis. Even with an activities program, many residents lack the personal one on one time that most of us crave. Many Residents may have no family or friends who come to visit, and find themselves bored, wishing they had a friend to talk to.
As a volunteer, you could be that much needed friend who spends an hour or so playing cards, reading to an elder whose eyes have failed or just talking.
Many volunteers have reported a feeling of well-being, a knowledge that they made someone's day a little easier, or a little brighter. Sometimes, bringing someone fresh picked flowers goes a long way!
Along with the word 'volunteering' comes many ideas and images about what it means to be a volunteer. In reality, it means being a friend...someone to chase away the loneliness and make a person feel loved!

Once Golden Door receives your application the screening process begins!
You will be called to arrange for an interview where we will get to know you and your interests. You will learn the various things that volunteers do at Golden Door and what may be a good fit for you.
Please note that we require:
- at least two (2) references,
- Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check & Child Abuse Registry Check (for those 18 years of age and older).
You will receive orientation to our home and training to your role as a volunteer. You will always have support and supervision during your time volunteering from our Recreation Department.
